Unable to bear shame, rape victim takes own life in Jessore

A girl, who took poison after being raped on September 2, succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of Sunday at Muragachha village in Monirampur upazila of Jessore, UNB reports.

 

The victim was identified as Rasheda Begum, 14, daughter of Ratan Mandal of the village.

 

Victim's father said his distant cousin Sajib allured her daughter to go outside at night and raped her.

 

The following morning, unable to bear the shame anymore as the incident spread among the villagers, Rashida took poison to take her life.

 

Soon after the incident, she was rushed to Jhikargachha Upazila Health Complex where doctors gave her primary treatment and referred her to Jessore General Hospital.

 

She died at 12:12 am while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

 

Md Firoz, sub-inspector of Monirampur Police Station, said victim's father filed a rape case accusing Sajib.

 

Police, meanwhile, arrested Sajib in this connection, the SI added.
