Employees of country’s largest telecom operator GrameenPhone Limited (GP) yesterday staged demonstration in front of GP House to realize their demand including payment of five percent profit bonus and increment of salaries.
Around 400 of employees of GP yesterday staged demonstration and chanted slogan against the mobile operator.
“We have deprived increment of salaries last four years…..before then we received 11 percent increment every year,” GP Ltd workers-Employees League vice president Md Sujon yesterday told daily sun.
He said they have also deprived five percent profit bonus.
In 2015, REB and law enforcing agencies charged lethal on us when we were demonstration against GP authorities.
“Now, they tried to use the same tools against the employees,” he said.
A total of 1402 employees of GP have already filed cases against the GP authorities to realize their demand, he said.
“We have already received several judgment in favour of us….but they (GP) yet to take necessary step in this regard,” he said.
Earlier, at least ten lawsuits were filed against Grameen Telecom founding Chairman and Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and Grameen Managing Director Ashraful Hassan as the company failed to pay five dividends to employees earned in the last 10 years.
Under labour laws, the company must share five percent of its net profits with its employees and the government that is accounted Tk 108 crore during the period between 2006 and 2015.
It was scheduled on hearing the lawsuits on Wednesday last but differed to November 1, 2017.
