Naeem, Dhiman hit century each for Rangpur 325/6 at stumps-day 1

NCL: Mashrafe backs in longer version for Khulna

Rangpur Division skipper Naeem Islam and Dhiman Ghosh hammered a century each against holders Khulna Division on day 1 in a Tier 1 match of the Walton 19th National Cricket League (NCL) at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Friday.


Naeem who was unbeaten on 120 runs, shared an innings of 148 in 29.1 overs with Dhiman in the 6th stand for Rangpur's first day's collection of 325/6 in 87.3 overs, at stumps, in the 1st innings.


Naeem stayed till the end of the day playing an innings of 225 balls to feature nine boundaries and one over boundary for the side.


Dhiman was caught behind by Nurul Hasan off Khulna skipper and a veteran spinner Abdur Razzak after a century of 105 off 117 balls, including 14 boundaries and one six.


Razzak bowled out opener Saymon Ahmad, who hit half century of 50 off 92 balls with four boundaries, after  Alamin Hossain making the first breakthrough for Khulna with the innings 2nd over as he departed Jahid Javed at 7/1.


Ariful Haque was another notable scorer for Rangpur with 30 runs.


Bangladesh national team limited over captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza who appeared in the longer version after a three-year break, delivered 13 overs but was fruitless conceding 56 runs.


Mashrafe last played in the list A league in 2014 edition, after knee injury in July 2009 in a Test against West Indies at Kingstown.


Alamin and Razzak captured three wickets each for 50 and 87 runs respectively for Khulna, the side elected to bowl first after winning the toss.


Meanwhile, another Tier 1 match of the four-day affair between Dhaka Division and Barisal Division could not start on Friday due to wet outfield triggered by rain at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox's Bazar.
