NCL 1st round sees Anamul’s double, 6 centuries

The rain-marred first round matches of the two-tier list A Walton 19th National Cricket League (NCL) ended at four separate venues of the country on Monday, producing a double century and six more tons.


Rajshahi Division (128/10 in 68.3 & 212/4) managed a six-wicket win against Sylhet Division (128/10 & 162/10) in their four-day Tier 2 match at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi while the three remaining matches of both tiers ended in draws.


Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna witnessed a double century and three tons in the 1st round Tier 1 match between holders Khulna Division and Rangpur Division.


Anamul Haque hammered his maiden double century in the league scoring 216 off 356 balls, featuring 18 boundaries and two sixes, in the 1st innings for Khulna while Robiul Islam Robi (100) hit another ton for the side.


Rangpur skipper Naeem Islam (135) and Dhiman Ghosh (105) struck one century each after being sent in to bat first.


Appearing in the list A match for the 2nd time after the ban on his participation in domestic cricket was lifted, former national skipper Mohammad Ashraful hit a century scoring 104 runs for Dhaka Metro in the 1st innings against Chittagong Division on Day-1 in a Tier 2 match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.


Rain spoiled the three days in the 1st round match of Tier 1 between Dhaka Division and Barisal Division at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox's Bazar, but Dhaka Division batsman Rony Talukdar (121) and Saif Hasan (106*) managed one century each in the 1st innings on Day-2.


Returning to the longer version game after a three-year break, Bangladesh national team ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza captured four wickets conceding 73 runs in 18.3 overs in two innings for Khulna against Rangpur. Mashrafe took 1/61 in 14.3 overs in the 1st innings and captured 3/12 in 4 overs in the 2nd innings.


National all-rounder Nasir Hossain of Rangpur shone as he took his maiden five-wicket haul conceding 70 runs in 20 overs against Khulna in the 1st innings.


Sylhet Division's off-break bowler Sayem Alam captured most wickets in an innings taking six for 32 in 9.4 overs against Rajshahi Division in the 1st innings.


But Farhad Reza grabbed six wickets in two innings for Rajshahi Division, three wickets in each 1st and 2nd innings, conceding 33 and 28 runs respectively.
