Earthquake rattles southern Philippines

A shallow, 5.4 magnitude earthquake rattled southern Philippines on Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In a report, the Phivolcs said the quake struck 10 km northwest of Wao, a town in Lanao del Sur province at 4:47 a.m. local time with a depth of 2 km.

It said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, was felt strongest in Kalilangan, Bukidnon and Cagayan de Oro City.

Phivolcs said it has not received any report of damages.

However, it predicted that there might be aftershocks.
