Bus torched after death in city road crash

An angry mob torched a bus at Bangla Motor in the capital on Tuesday night after a road accident left a man dead and at least five people injured.

 

Quoting witnesses, police said the accident took place when the speedy bus knocked a rickshaw down around 9:30 pm, leaving a man dead on the spot and at least five people injured, said Inspector (Investigation) Jafar Ali of Shahbagh Police Station.

 

Following the accident, angry pedestrians set the bus on fire while its driver and helper managed to escape.

 

On information, two firefighting units rushed in and doused the flame around 10:05 pm, said Mahmudul Haque, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room.

 

One of the injured was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Jafar said, adding that the identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained.
