Dhaka University (DU) will observe mourning day on October 15 recalling the tragic incident of Jagannath hall collapse occurring on October 15 in 1985, said a university release on Thursday.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman announced it at a seminar at the Professor Abdul Matin Virtual Classroom adjacent to VC lounge on the campus, the release added.
The programmes include hoisting of black flags atop all main buildings including halls of the university, keeping the academic flag of the university at half-mast, wearing black badges and bringing out mourning procession by the student, teachers, officers and employees of the university towards Jagannath hall monument from the bottom of the Aparajeyo Bangla at 7.30am.
Besides, a discussion meeting will be held at the Television Room of the October Memorial Building at 8 am to 9 am.
Apart from this, a painting exhibition on the incident, blood donation camp, will also be organized as parts of the programme of the mourning day, the release added.
