Bangladesh Film Festival 2017, a 16-day film festival, will begin across the country on Friday.
Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) is organising the festival for the second time in assistance with Zila Shilpakala Academies with the theme ‘Film for All, Art and Culture for All’.
A press briefing about the festival was held at the seminar room of National Theatre Centre of BSA on Thursday.
Director general of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky said in the press briefing that the film festival will help to reach the good films to grassroots level.
Cultural affairs minister Assaduzzaman Noor will be present as the chief guest in the opening ceremony and inaugurate the festival while director general of BSA Liaquat Ali Lucky will preside over the ceremony.
Cultural affairs secretary Md. Ibrahim Hossain Khan, film director Syed Anam Tutul and Morshedul Islam, president of Bangladesh Film Director Association Mushfiqur Rahman will speak while secretary of the BSA Jahangir Hossain will deliver the welcome speech.
A total of 44 films under five categories-classic, internationally acclaimed or internationally award winning, liberation war based film, and contemporary films-will be screened in the festival.
Awards will be given in three categories from the contemporary films released from 2015 to 2016 while the winners of Best Film, Best Film Director and Special Jury Award will get cheque of Tk 200,000,Tk 100,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively.
The prize money of the winning films, directors will be handed over in the closing ceremony on 21 October.
President of Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh architect Lailun Nahar Swemi, Film critic Anupam Hayat, president of Moviana film society and BSA secretary Jahangir Hossain were, among others, present at the briefing.
The festival was organised for the first time in 2015.
