HONG KONG: Hong Kong stocks dipped in the first few minutes of trade on Monday following last week's gains and a weak US jobs report, but Shanghai soared as investors returned from a week-long break.

The Hang Seng Index dipped 0.05 percent, or 14.95 points, to 28,443.09, reports AFP.

But the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index surged 1.62 percent, or 54.31 points, to 3,403.25, while the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, jumped 1.26 percent, or 25.08 points, to 2,013.57.
