Awami League (AL) publicity and publication secretary Hasan Mahmud said BNP has proved its political bankruptcy by extending support to the hartal observed by Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday.

Hasan came up with the statement addressing a human chain protesting the hartal in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Thursday.

Hasan said that the people of the country has refused today’s (Thursday) hartal. He alleged that the politics of BNP is being guided on the instruction of Jamaat.

Hasan also thanked BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, as he compared the ruling AL with Argentine footballer Lionel Messi.

“I want to give thanks to Mirza Fakhrul for his realization that Awami League is playing like Messi. Messi is certainly a good player and scored a brilliant hat-trick a day ago,” he said.

He added that AL-led government will also score a hat-trick by assuming power in the next general election.

Addressing the human chain, Food Minister Quamrul Islam said BNP gave their support to the hartal to destabilize the country again.

“Jamaat is trying to destabilize the country at a time when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is being lauded by the world community for sheltering Rohingyas,” he said.

The minister alleged that BNP is trying to involve Rohingyas in terrorist acts.

AL leaders — Shamsul Haque Tuku and Bolram Podder, and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana, among others, were present.
