An all-round performance by South Africa Invitation XI guided them to 6-wicket victory against Bangladesh in their lone one-day preparatory tour match at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein on Thursday.
After winning the toss Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza decided to bat first. But their decision back fired as they lost four early wickets for 63 runs in 14.5 overs in absence of injury grabbed opener Tamim Iqbal.
After the dismissals of four top order batsmen -- Soumya Sarkar (3), Imrul Kayes (27), Litton Kumar Das (8) and Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim (22) -- for 63 runs, ace all rounder Shakib Al Hasan tried to recover the damage as he paired up with Mahmudullah Riyad and scored 57 runs in the fifth wicket stand.
Shakib again partnered with Sabbir Rahman and contributed 76 runs in the sixth wicket stand.
Sabbir scored team’s second highest 52 runs off 54 balls.
Shakib, who joined the Bangladesh team after his leave from Test series by BCB, scored the team highest 68 runs off 67 deliveries, laced with nine boundaries.
Mahmudullah Riyad (21), skipper Mashrafe Mortaza (17), Mohammad Saifuddin not out 13 and Nasir Hossain (12) were the other scorers for Bangladesh team.
Bangladesh wrapped up their innings for a paltry 255 runs in 48.1 overs.
In reply, South Africa XI made a solid start with their openers Aiden Markram and Matthew Breetzke.
The put on a partnership of 147 runs before Markram lost his wicket to Nasir Hossain scoring 82 runs. Breetzke was bowled out by captain Mashrafe on 71 run.
South Africa XI skipper JP Duminy and star all-rounder took the team close to victory before Duminy (34) was sent back to pavilion by Mahmudullah.
Khaya Zondo came to join Villiers when their team score was 236 for 3. Villiers was out on 43 but the hosts easily reached the destination with 3.3 overs in hand.
Visiting Bangladesh will play their first ODI of the 3-match series against South Africa on Saturday (Oct 15) at the De Beers Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
