The daily sun, a leading English daily in the country, celebrated the 7th founding anniversary of its publication on Tuesday with a fresh vow to bring innovation in news production and maintain courageous journalism.

 

The anniversary of the daily sun, a media outlet of East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL), was observed with two-day programmes that began on Monday.

 

Bashundhara Group Vice-chairmen Shafiat Sobhan Sanvir and Safwan Sobhan Tasvir jointly inaugurated the celebration programmes by cutting a giant cake at the office of the daily sun.

 

On Tuesday, the daily sun organised a get-together of readers and well-wishers, including politicians, diplomats, editors and academics, at its office at Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital.

 

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, Housing and Public Works Minister Engr Mosharraf Hossain, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque, Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu, Samakal Editor Golam Sarwar, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milon, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin and daily sun Publisher Maynal Hossain Chowdhury and Executive Editor Shiabur Rahman, among others, attended the  celebration programme.

 

Daily sun acting Editor Enamul Hoque Chowcdhury welcomed the guests at the function.  

 

Speaking on the occasion, Inu said, “The daily sun has been proven its  courageous journalism in the last seven years.

On the government part, we are supporting constructive criticism for flourishing democracy.”

 

The minister also said the draft of the ninth wedge board has already been prepared and it will be announced soon.

 

Engr Mosharraf said,” The journey of the daily sun was a special event in the country’s newspaper industry. The daily has proven its stance for truth with courageous journalism and accuracy in reporting.

 

The state minister for health and family welfare said the daily sun has been contributing to the nation by producing true and impartial reports for the last seven years.      

 

The daily started its journey on October 24, 2010 with the slogan ‘True and Impartial’.

 

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on Monday, wishing the daily sun.

 

In their messages, the President and the premier wished all-out success of the daily.

 

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan also issued a message on the occasion of the seventh anniversary of the daily sun.

 

In his message, he said the daily sun has completed seven years of its operation. The English newspaper has reached all types of readers and earned reputation through planning innovative contents and offering information objectively.

 

Indian High Commissioner Harsha Bardhan Shringla said the daily sun has been reflecting Bangladesh since seven years upon readers. The newspaper is my first choice to learn about Bangladesh.

 

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque said the newspaper plays an outstanding role in reporting the Rohingya crisis.

 

“We get a pathway from the daily to contribute more on humanitarian grounds,” he added.

 

Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director Abul Kalam Azad said the daily sun has introduced a new dimension in English newspaper arena in Bangladesh. The accuracy of reporting and ethical editorial policy bring it to a new height.

 

Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam said, “The daily sun is making a new journey with an energetic news team as well as the management. We hope the newspaper will make a difference by producing news accurately.”

 

Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin said, “The specialty of the daily sun is its inclusive news reporting. The daily has been contributing to social and policy developments by producing constructive and in-depth reports.”

 

Acting Editor of the daily sun Enamul Hoque Chowdhury said the daily sun has won readers’ minds by publishing accurate news in the last seven years. “We have also adopted the touch of technology in new producing,” he added.

 

He expressed the hope that the newspaper will lead the domain of English medium.

 

Executive Editor of the daily sun Shiabur Rahman said the newspaper is being enriched as we are getting a constructive feedback from readers. He hoped that the daily will lead the English medium of news production.
