Election Commission’s security meeting over Rangpur city polls Sunday

The Election Commission (EC) will sit in a meeting on Sunday to finalise the security measures for Rangpur City Corporation election slated for December 21.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda will preside over meeting, scheduled for an 11 am start in the city’s Nirbachan Bhaban, said Asadul Haque, Assistant Director (Public Relations) of the EC Secretariat.

Top officials from law enforcement agencies including Police, Rab, BGB and Ansar, and the Armed Force Division will attend the meeting.

The EC on November 5 announced the election schedule for Rangpur city Corporation. The last date for the submission of nomination paper is November 22 while that for withdrawal is December 3.

Besides, the meeting will discuss security measures for elections to some 130 local bodies, scheduled to be held on December 28.

Among the local bodies, four municipalities, 34 Union Parishads and an upazila parishad will go to the regular polls following expiry of their respective tenures, while three municipalities and 91 Union Parishads will see by-election as some posts of the bodies fell vacant for different reasons.
