At least 12 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) sustained burn injury on Saturday as the gas cylinder of a passenger bus near the capital's Farmgate exploded.
The injured are - Akash, Rana, Hridoy, Rifat, Rayhan, Hira, Kabbo, Roushan and Saurav.
The gas cylinder exploded with a deafening bang when the 'Raida Paribahan' bus reached Alrazi Hospital in Farmgate around 11:00am, leaving 10 injured.
Later, the burn injured people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The injured are safe now after taking primary treatment, Burn unit's residential surgeon Partha Shankar Paul informed.
Marking the 70th founding anniversary of BCL at Suhrawardy Udyan in the morning, some BCL activists and supporters were going to join a rally with gas balloons, said Tejgaon police station officer-in-charge Mazharul Islam.
The fire might have broken out after someone lit a cigarette in the running bus around 10:30 am, he said.
