‘Robber’ killed in Comilla ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber has been reportedly killed in a gunfight with detectives at Alekharchar Amtoli in Sadar upazila of Comilla.

 

The deceased was identified as Abu Taher, 28, son of Abul Khayer Miah, a resident of Songraish area of Comilla city and kingpin of the robber gang.

 

Manzurul Alam, officer-in-charge of detective branch of police, Comilla said tipped- off that a gang of bandits was taking preparation to commit robbery on the bank of Gomoti River, a DB team carried out a drive there around 1:30 am on Sunday.

 

Sensing the presence of the DB members, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered the gunfight.

 

During the gunfight one of the robbers caught in the line of fire and died on the spot and another was detained.

 

Abu Taher was the main suspect of mugging incident of Tk 40 lakh of Max Company from South Chartha area of the city in last year, the OC added.
