An Awami League delegation, led by its general secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, on Monday went to three northern districts to distribute blankets and relief items among cold-stricken people there.
The three northern districts are Panchagarh, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, where a severe cold wave is now sweeping over, said a press release.
On Monday, the country recorded its lowest ever temperature in its history at 2.6 degrees Celsius in Tetulia, Panchagarh under the influence of a severe cold wave.
Other delegation members are AL joint general secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak MP, organising secretary BM Mozammel Haque MP, and relief & social welfare affairs secretary Sujit Roy Nandi.
The Monday's meeting of Awami League's presidium body was deferred to Thursday next for the distribution of warm clothes in the three northern districts.
The meeting will be held at 10:30am on Thursday at Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's political office at Dhanmondi in the city.
AL general secretary Obaidul Quader requested all concerned to attend the meeting on time.
