The High Court on Thursday stayed the BTRC’s notice for auctioning 4G spectrum and inviting applications for licences.
The order issued by Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed came after a petition by Banglalion Communications, which cited that the telecom regulator’s notice contradicts the 2008 broadband guidelines.
On Dec 4, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission or BTRC published the notice, saying it will auction 4G spectrum on Feb 13 and accept applications for licences until Jan 14 from telecom operators to offer the fourth-generation or 4G services.
The court also issued a rule asking BTRC to explain why the court shall not declare the circular illegal.
Wireless internet provider Banglalion Communications Limited filed the writ, terming the circular contrary to the broadband guideline, 2008.
