BCL activists assault Dhaka University students to rescue besieged vice-chancellor

At least 25 students of Dhaka University were injured as Bangladesh Chhatra League men assaulted them physically during their demonstration on the campus on Tuesday afternoon.

The protesters, a newly-formed alliance of students who identify themselves as an ‘anti-repression group,' took out a procession around 11:30am on Tuesday.

The students then besieged the university Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman at his office since 12:00 at noon to press home their demands including punishment of BCL men, who harassed some female students earlier.

At one stage of their demonatration, around 300 to 400 BCL men went to the VC office around 4:00pm and asked them to leave the spot, sources said.

As the students did not comply with their instruction, the BCL men reportedly swooped on them, leaving at least 24 students injured.
