Tarique involved with Bangladesh high commission attack in London: Obaidul

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday claimed that BNP senior vice-chairman, Tarique Rahman, was involved with the attack on Bangladesh High Commission in London on February 7.

Talking to the reporters while inaugurating Cox’s Bazar-Teknaf road this morning, Obaidul said “Staying in London, Tarique Zia, is instigating different violent activities.”

“The headquarters of Interpol has been informed regarding the matter. International process to repatriate the convicted person (Tarique) was underway to take legal steps against him,” he said.

Replying to a query on probability of split in BNP, the AL leader said “The leaders of BNP are enough to split the party.”

Earlier on February 7, a day before the verdict in the graft case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, some leaders and activists of BNP attacked the staff of Bangladesh High Commission in London and ransacked its furniture which the government termed tantamount to an attack on Bangladesh, reports UNB.

Later on Thursday, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, also a former prime minister, was jailed for five years as she was found guilty in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

The minister inaugurated the road in commemoration of ATM Jafor Alom, who was killed by West Pakistani forces on the night of March 25 in 1971.
