Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring in the Bangla calendar, is being celebrated today across the country with huge enthusiasm and fanfare through various programmes.

 

‘Flowers blossom or not, today is the beginning of Spring,’ says famous Bengali poet Subhash Mukhopadhya in one of his poems describing the arrival of Pahela Falgun.

 

Young men and women will throng Dhaka University and Ekushey Book Fair area in the morning to celebrate the day, singing songs, reciting poems and dancing.

 

Jatiya Basanta Utsab Udjapan Parishad have arranged a programme at Bakultala of Fine Arts Faculty on the DU campus to mark the traditional Bengali event.        

 

Besides, different socio-cultural organisations have chalked out various programmes in the capital and elsewhere to celebrate the day.

 

Adequate security measures have been taken to avoid any untoward incident.

 

Pahela Falgun adds joys to life and nature. After the dryness of winter, spring makes new growth of leaves on trees and beautifies the nature with colorful flowers like Shimul, Polash and Marigold.

 

Colorful flowers, chirping birds and soft touch of shining sun symbolise arrival of Pahela Falgun.

 

The festival-loving people of Bangladesh welcome and celebrate the day with great joy and love.

 

Blazing red and yellow are the two colours that representats Pahela Falgun.

 

Bangalees embellish themselves with these two colours.

 

Girls are dressed in “bashonti” (yellow or orange) sarees and adorning floral ornaments while boys wear colorful panjabis to welcome Pahela Falgun.
