The government has promoted 391 senior assistant secretaries to deputy secretaries even though there are no permanent posts for them at present.
They have been attached to the Ministry of Public Administration as officers on special duty (OSDs). The ministry issued a gazette notification in this regard on Tuesday night.
With the latest promotions, the number of deputy secretaries has risen to 1,745, whereas there are only 800 permanent posts of deputy secretary.
Last year on Dec 22, the government promoted 193 deputy secretaries to joint secretaries. On Dec 11, it promoted 128 joint secretaries to additional secretaries.
On Apr 23, a total of 267 senior assistant secretaries were promoted to deputy secretaries. In November last year, 536 officials were elevated to deputy secretaries, joint secretaries and additional secretaries.
During its previous tenure, between 2009 and 2013, the Awami League government promoted a total of 2,528 officers in phases.
