Chittagong Sonali Otit Club emerged champion in the Veterans Cup Football Tournament beating Dhaka (Red) in a penalty shootout 2 (4) – 2 (3) in the final at Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Artificial Turf on Saturday.
In the penalty shootout, Kaiser, Mintu, Jamrul and Jamrul converted their shots correctly for the winners while Bablu, Aslam and Shamim were successful for the losers.
The stipulated time of the match was locked in 2-2 where Ferdous scored twice in the 31st and 40th minute for Chittagong while Md Aslam and Hiru netted one goal each in the 12th and 27th minute to restore the parity, reports UNB.
Dhaka (Red) team player Md Aslam was adjudged most valuable player of the tournament.
BFF Senior Vice President Abdus Salam Murshedy was the chief guest in the closing function of the two-day tournament.
Earlier, in the semifinals at the same venue on the day, Chittagong beat Dhaka (Green) 2-1 while Dhaka (Red) eliminated Khulna 2-0 for their final berth.
A total of 12-team, including a team from London, of former footballers took part in the tournament organised by Dhaka Sonali Otit Club.
