The Combined Writers' Society (CWS), a combine of socio-cultural and literary organisation, on Monday strongly protested the heinous attack on eminent writer and educationist Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, reports BSS.
They also demanded for immediate arrest, speedy trial and exemplary punishment of the perpetrators involved with the attack that was aimed at assassination of Professor Zafar Iqbal to stop flourishing free thoughts in the society.
Under the banner of CWS, the leaders and activists of literary magazine 'Mouchak', 'Sommilito Sangskritik Jyote (SSJ)', Rangapur Sahittya O Sangskritik Parisahd (RSSP)', 'Jatiya Kobita Parisahd', 'Chhora Sangshad', 'Bibhagiyo Lekhok Parisahd (BLP)', 'Abhijatrik Sahittya O Sangskritik Parisahd (ASSP)' and 'Biswa Lekhok Kallyan Sangstha' formed a human chain followed by recitation of poems on the Town Hall premises in the city protesting the attack.
Presided over by Chief Adviser of 'Mouchak' Rezaul Karim Mukul, former President of RSSP Prof Shah Alam, General Secretary of Rangpur unit of SSJ Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick Babu Sona, President of RSSP Aftab Hossain, President of Rangpur unit of 'Chhora Sangshad' Sahedul Islam, Vice-president of ASSP Salma Setara and General Secretary of BLP Zakir Ahmed, among others, addressed the programme.
Moderated by General Secretary of Rangpur unit of 'Chhora Sangshad' Rezaul Karim Jiban, writers, poets, academicians, teachers, researchers, journalists, socio-cultural and human rights activists, civil society members
participated in the programme.
The speakers strongly condemned the attack on renowned literary personality and academician Prof Zafar Iqbal and demanded exemplary punishment of the attackers.
