Country driven in a wrong way: Dr Zafrullah

Gonoshasthya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury on Friday accused the government of running the country in a wrong way.

He urged the government to implement the spirit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s March 7 historic speech, UNB reports.

“The spirit of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s March-7 epoch-making speech was against misrule and misdeeds…I request the Awami League government to carefully read Bangabandhu’s all speeches and take those into heart,” he said.

Speaking at a human chain programme, Zafrullah further said no nation can progress by establishing a bureaucratic one-party rule Baksal.

“Democracy is the only path for progress. Democracy means right of expression and allow people to take to the streets.

The way you (govt) are running the country, is wrong,” Zafrullah said.

He urged the government to come to the right path and take steps for holding a fair and credible election. “There’s no disgrace to face a defeat in a fair way, and there’s no elegance to stay in power for long in a foul way.”

Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arranged the programme in front of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) building demanding BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.

Speaking at the programme, BNP standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury government sent their chairperson to jail to grab power again keeping people out of the election process.

He said the government is now attacking BNP leaders and activists and foiling its peaceful political programmes to spread panic among people so that they do not raise their voice for their rights.

The BNP leader this is unbelievable and brutal the way the government is arresting BNP leaders and activists and attacking its programmes.

He said Awami League does not want democracy, the rule of law and press freedom as they want to hang onto power by creating disorder in the country.

Koarsu urged people to get united and take to the streets to restore democracy and their voting and other democratic rights.
