Farmers and others concerned, including agriculturists are expecting a bumper production of wheat in the district during the current season.
Deputy Director of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Monojit Kumar Mollik said favorable climate conditions, adequate supply of necessary fertilisers and pesticides are the reasons behind the bumper production of wheat in the area.
The government and non-government banks had disbursed adequate crop loans among the farmers to make the wheat cultivation a complete success in the region.
DAE office sources said a total of 28,130 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation in the area with the production target of 90,000 tonnes of wheat.
Three varieties (BARI-25,26, 28) of wheat were cultivated in 11 upazilas of the district which have given positive results supported by timely availability of seed, fertilizer, irrigation and pesticides overall favorable climatic condition, a DAE official said.
Farmers are now very busy in harvesting wheat in their land amidst good yield and expected market price everywhere in the region.
