A war crimes tribunal has handed down death sentence to three Razakars of Noakhali and prison for 20 years to another for their involvement in crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam delivered the verdict in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The three condemned convicts are- Amir Ahmed alias Amir Ali, Abul Kalam alias AKM Mansur, Md Joynul Abedin while the Abdul Kuddus was sentenced to 20-year jail.
Of them, Abul Kalam alias AKM Mansur has been on the run.
These four were found responsible for abductions, torture and killings to help Pakistan to abort Bangladesh’s birth in 1971.
The first tribunal on February 6 concluded hearing in the case, saying it would pronounce judgment of the trial any day.
Md Eusuf, 70, was another accused in the case who died of cardiac arrest on May 19, 2016, and his name was dropped from the case.
On June 20, 2016, the ICT framed three charges against the four accused.
The court also sentences another person to five years rigorous imprisonment.
