Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu on Thursday said that religion-based politics should be banned.
"It is this political breeding ground that generates communal politics and militancy and attacks on people like Professor Zafar Iqbal," he told a seminar at the Jatiya Press Club.
Zia, the founder of BNP, had introduced a "poison ivy" into our body politic by introducing communal politics," he said.
Inu said that Zia abolished the four fundamental state's principles and rehabilitated killers and war criminals and introduced communal politics based on religion.
"It is time to uproot that poison ivy", he said.
The meeting was also addressed by Professor Emeritus Dr Anisuzzaman, Padma Sri and other eminent personalities.
