CHITTAGONG: A person was killed and two others were injured in a factional clash between two groups over establishing supremacy at Banskhali upazila in the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ledu Miah, 50, son of late Nosha Miah of village Khankhanabad under the upazila while the injured were identified as Abdul Aziz, 22, and Mir Ahmed, 55.
Sources said there had long been a rivalry between two groups led by Firoz Member and Babul at the village.
Followers of the groups locked in clash centring the previous enmity at the village in the afternoon. The clash left three including Ledu Miah injured critically.
The injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where physicians declared Ledu dead at around 4:45pm, said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Alauddin Talukdar of the CMCH police outpost.
Quoting physicians, ASI Alauddin said Ledu sustained severe injury in head.
Victim Ledu was follower of Firoz member.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Salauddin of Banskhali police Station said on information, they rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
He said they arrested two persons identified as Shoiab and Shah Alam from the spot in this connection. No case was filed with the police station in this connection, the OC added..
