BNP will stage countrywide demonstrations today and hold a public rally in the capital on March 29, demanding release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
The Supreme Court has stayed the High Court order that granted bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia till May 8. She was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
A bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Monday.
“I’m calling upon the country’s people, political parties and organisations to face this horrific situation unitedly. There is no alternative to forge national unity to get rid of the crisis,” BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
The BNP leader came up with the statement addressing a press conference at the party central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Monday. BNP arranged the press conference after denial of bail for Khaleda Zia by the Supreme Court.
As per the announcement of Mirza Fakhrul, the party will observe demonstrations at districts and metropolitan cities across the country and at every thana of the Dhaka city today, demanding release of Khaleda Zia from jail.
