Call to preserve sub-languages of Rajshahi region

Speakers at a discussion in Rajshahi on Tuesday unequivocally called for conserving sub-languages in the region for the sake of protecting those from further diminishing, reports BSS.

Terming language as one of the major elements of civilization, they suggested a holistic approach to protect the heritage with the best use of modern technologies and devises.

The observation came at a daylong seminar styled "Rajshahi Regional Sub-languages: Morphodivarsity Investigation, Preservation and Prospects" held at Circuit House conference hall in the city.

International Mother Language Institute (IMLI) and Commissioner Office of Rajshahi Division jointly organised the seminar.

Administrative officials, professional leaders and other stakeholders joined the programme.

Divisional Commissioner Nur-Ur-Rahman addressed the discussion session as the chief guest with Additional Commissioner Aminul Islam in the chair.

Director of Local Government Shayam Kishore Roy, Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader and local Awami League leaders Dablu Sarker, Shaheen Akhter Rainy and Asaduzzaman Asad also spoke on the occasion.

During his focal point-discussion, Kabedul Islam, Additional Secretary and Director of IMLI, said the IMLI has been working for promotion, preservation and improvement of mother languages.

The participants, in three separate group discussions, put forward a set of recommendations on how to investigate and preserve the regional sub-languages.
