A total of 13 foreign media personalities and intellectuals called on Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city on Wednesday, reports BSS.

During the meeting, they discussed various matters including parliamentary practice, trade, financial development, tourism and Rohingya issues.

“Bangladesh is playing a key role in resolving the ongoing Rohingya crisis.  Bangladesh has set a glorious example of humanity by standing by the side of Rohingyas. What we need now is sincerity from the part of Myanmar,” Dr Chaudhury said.

She called upon the international community to raise opinion in support of peaceful repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar and ensure their full citizenship and security.

“Bangladesh is now standing on a strong base in all financial and social indexes. Rate of poverty in the country has gone down due to implementation of different programmes under Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar, Asrayon Prokolpo and Social Security Net,” the Speaker added.

Earlier at the meeting, a presentation was made on the construction history of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and parliamentary activities.
