Nazrul’s 119th birth anniversary being celebrated

 

 

The nation is being celebrated the 119th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on Friday with due respect and festivity.

 

The government has chalked up elaborate programmes to celebrate the day in a befitting manner.

 

All public and private universities, other educational institutions and cultural organisations of the capital and elsewhere across the country will celebrate the day through various programmes, including discussions, seminars and musical programmes. 

 

State-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar as well as private television channels will celebrate day by airing special programmes while print media, including the Daily Sun, will publish special articles on the national poet.

 

Widely known as ‘rebel poet’, Kazi Nazrul Islam was born on 11th Jaistha in 1306 at Churulia near Asansol in Burdwan district of West Bengal. 

 

A polymath, poet, lyricist, composer, revolutionary, editor and journalist, Nazrul sang for freedom, equality and love. The nation got inspiration from his poems and songs during Bangladesh Liberation War against Pakistan in 1971.

 

In separate messages, President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and wished success of all the programmes chalked out marking the poet’s birth anniversary across the country.

 

At national level, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has chalked out elaborate programmes marking the Day, which will be celebrated jointly in Dhaka, Cumilla, Chattogram and the poet’s memorable place at Trishal on Friday.

 

President Abdul Hamid will attend as the chief guest the birth anniversary programme of the national poet at the state level at Trishal around 3:30pm.

 

At the outset of the programme, people from all strata of life as well as the Ministry of Cultural Affairs will place wreaths at the poet’s grave on Dhaka University campus on Friday morning.

 

At Trishal, Minister for Information Hasanul Haq Inu and Minister for Religious Affairs Principal Matiur Rahman will join the inaugural session of the national- level programme as special guests.

 

The chairperson of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Begum Simin Hossain Rimi, will preside over the programme.

Meanwhile, Nazrul Institute and Shilpakala Academy will hold discussions and cultural functions marking the Day.  Bangla Academy arranged a discussion at its Poet Shamsur Rahman seminar room on Thursday. Professor Mohammad Abdul Quaiyum chaired the occasion.

 

Dhaka University (DU) will also celebrate the birth anniversary of the national poet in a befitting manner.

 

To mark the day, the DU authorities chalked out elaborate programmes, including rallies, cultural events and discussions. At 6:30 am on Driday, Dhaka University (DU) teachers, officers, employees and students will assemble at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla to march towards the graveyard of the national poet in a rally to be led by DU vice chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman for paying tribute to him by placing wreaths.

 

Later, a discussion will be held on the premises of the poet’s shrine with DU VC in the chair.

 

Besides, different departments of the university will organise seminars and cultural events marking the Day.
