COX’S BAZAR: Four Rohingyas were injured in a landslide at a Rohingya camp at Ukhia upazila in the district on Wednesday.

The injured were identified as Mariam Khatun, 45, Samuda Khatun, Rokeya, 25, and her daughter Umme Habiba, 3.

Sources said a huge chunk of a hill fell on houses of two families at Shafiullah Kata Rohingya camp under the upazila at around 11:00am.

The three women and the child got trapped under mud after the landslide.

On information, members of Bangladesh Army, Fire Service and Civil Defence department and different NGOs rushed to the spot and rescued them.

They were admitted to MSF Hospital for medication, said sources.

On the under hand, the incessant rainfall for the last five days caused immense sufferings to the Rohingyas as good number of their makeshift houses were damaged, low-lands submerged and roads filled with mud.

Two persons including a child were also killed in landslides at the camps over the days.

Sources said some 500 shanties were damaged by the heavy rainfall.

Besides, a good number of latrines were also damaged resulting in immense sufferings.

Cox’s Bazar Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Abul Kalam told the daily sun that they have been working to address the problem.

Sufficient measures were taken earlier for reducing the damages, he said.
