BNP senior leaders want to meet their party chairperson Khaleda Zia in jail on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr.
“Our national standing committee members sought permission from the authorities concerned to meet our leader (Khaleda) in jail on the eid day,” said party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Thursday, he also said the party standing committee members will go to the jail gate after offering fateha at the grave of party founder Ziaur Rahman in the morning.
Rizvi said their party leaders and activists will celebrate the eid this time with heavy hearts as their party chief has been unfairly kept in jail.
Unlike the previous years, he said their party will not arrange any programme to exchange eid greetings with diplomats and common people since Khaleda is in jail.
The BNP leader said their party has no any specific programme on the eid day this time.
“Many of our leaders and activists can go to the jail gate out of their love for our leader,” he added.
Party sources said Khaleda’s family members will also go to the jail in the morning on the eid day to meet her with some homemade food.
On February 8, Khaleda was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
