Concert for Rohingyas held in NY

UN Chamber Music Society of the UN staff recreation council held a concert at Baruch Performing Art Centre in Manhattan, New York recently to mobilise funds for the Rohingyas living in Bangladesh, reports UNB.

Brooklyn Raga Massive extended cooperation in arranging the concert held in New York on Monday evening, said the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN on Wednesday.

A concert was organised in New York’s Manhattan on Monday with a message of providing assistance to the displaced Rohingya people of Myanmar.

Assistant secretary-general for UN Human Rights Andrew Gilmour reiterated UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres' call for assisting the Rohingyas at the concert for humanity and welcomed the initiative.

Bangladesh Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Masud Bin Momen said this humanitarian crisis of the Rohingyas has put Bangladesh in a multi-faceted challenge.

The fund collected through the concert will be provided for Rohingyas through NGO Brac.

Some 700,000 Rohingyas crossed the border from Myanmar's Rakhine state since August last year following persecution, and are now living in cramped camps in Cox's Bazar.
