CHATTOGRAM: Officials of Customs Audit, Investigation and Research (AIR) wing seized a consignment of foreign liquor imported under false declaration from the Chattogram Port on Thursday.

The liquors were imported by Bismillah Corporation of Dhaka with the declaration of soda ash in a bid to dodge huge amount of revenue as duty and tax, sources said.

The consignment arrived at the port on March 3. 

On information from the National Security Intelligence (NSI), the AIR officials seized a 40-feet container at the CCT Yard of the port on Thursday.

Chattogram Customs Deputy Commissioner Saiful Hoque said they recovered 16,824 litres of foreign liquor of different brands including vodka, jonnie walker double black, black lebel, chivas regal and ballantines scotch whisky from the container.

The taxable value of the consignment is Tk 2.43 crore and revenue of Tk 14.90 crore is involved with the consignment, he added.
