The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei, in collaboration with the Wildlife Division of the Brunei Government, organised an informative talk on Wednesday (June 7) aimed at promoting safety measures in waters or near water bodies to prevent crocodile attacks.

The initiative comes in response to a tragic incident in April 2023, where a Bangladeshi national working in Brunei lost his life in a crocodile attack.

The High Commission has taken a proactive stance to ensure the well-being and safety of the Bangladeshi expatriate community residing in Brunei, particularly those engaged in the country's construction sector, said a press release of the Bangladesh mission in Brunei.

Recognising the sizable presence of Bangladeshis in the workforce, the High Commission is committed to raising awareness and equipping individuals with the necessary knowledge to prevent and respond effectively to potential risks associated with crocodile encounters.

The collaborative talk between the Bangladesh High Commission and the Wildlife Division of the Brunei Government served as an essential platform to disseminate vital information and practical advice on staying safe in waters or near water bodies.

The session aimed to educate attendees about identifying potential danger zones, recognizing crocodile habitats, and adopting precautionary measures to minimize the risk of crocodile attacks.

This talk is just the beginning of an ongoing campaign by the Bangladesh High Commission to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens in Brunei. Subsequent sessions will be organized in different districts of Brunei, targeting a wider audience and actively engaging the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

The Bangladesh High Commission expressed its sincere gratitude to the Wildlife Division of the Brunei Government for their invaluable partnership and support in organizing this event. Their expertise and commitment to wildlife conservation have been instrumental in ensuring the effectiveness of this awareness campaign.

The High Commission urges all Bangladeshis residing in Brunei to actively participate in these sessions and make use of the information shared to protect themselves and their fellow community members. By working together and remaining vigilant, it is possible to minimize the occurrence of unfortunate incidents and foster a safer environment for everyone.
