Home Ministry’s Security Division Secretary, Md Abdullah Al Masud Chowdhury, has stated that there were "no fire safety arrangements" in place at the building on Baily Road, which was engulfed in a devastating fire on Thursday night, resulting in the loss of at least 46 lives.

"A total of three cautionary notices regarding fire safety concerns were issued to the building authorities, but unfortunately, they were disregarded,” he said while talking to the journalists on the building premises this noon.

He mentioned that the investigation committee is also examining other instances of negligence in this matter.

“We will take action based on the findings of the report,” he said.

During the same event, Brigadier General Md Main Uddin, Director General of the Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD), presented copies of the notices to the journalists.

"The building has only one staircase, no fire exit, and the trapped individuals took refuge in a room that lacked windows," he said.
