Panic struck the locals residing along the borderline as a Myanmar “military vessel” was reportedly spotted on the Myanmar side of the River Naf near Shahparirdwip under Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar district on Friday.
Locals said the vessel could be seen from the early hours till 11:00 am on Friday and after that it moved away.
Since then, loud explosions have been reportedly heard on the borderline. Meanwhile, explosions on the Myanmar side of the border were also reported on Thursday night too.
Teknaf-2 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Commanding Officer Md Mohiuddin Ahmed told the media that a large ship was seen on the Myanmar side of the Naf River.
However, he could not ascertain whether it was a military vessel or not.
“But soon after the ship moved away from the border areas, there were intermittent loud explosions coming from the other side of the border,” Mohiuddin added.
The conflict between Myanmar security forces and the rebel Arakan Army, which intensified since 3 February, has seen mortar shells and bullets encroaching into Bangladesh territory, resulting in casualties and injuries.
In response to these challenges, the government has heightened the vigilance of BGB personnel to thwart any potential infiltration attempts across the Myanmar borders during the conflict.
Additional BGB forces have been deployed in border areas to closely monitor and manage the situation.
