Jamaat leader Azhar jailed for 2yrs in sabotage case
10 others have also been convicted

A court in Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam and 10 others to two-year imprisonment in a sabotage case filed with Motijheel police station in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury delivered the verdict in presence of the Jamaat leader while other convicts were tried in absentia.
Defence lawyer Abdur Razzak said the convicts were sentenced to one and a half years of jail under Section 435 and six months more under Section 143 of the Penal Code.
In November 2010, the police lodged the case and later submitted a charge sheet against 18 people, including the Jamaat leader.
