The government has instructed the two city corporations in Dhaka to remove the waste of sacrificial animals before sunrise on the day after Eid-ul-Azha.

The instruction was given from the overall preparation review meeting at the secretariat on the implementation of animal sacrifices at specific places and the management of sacrificial waste on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

After the meeting, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tazul Islam told reporters that animal waste must be removed before sunrise on the day after Eid al-Adha. Waste should be disposed of at night if possible.

“This year I have specified that the waste must be removed before sunrise [on the day after Eid]. After that, any kind of waste should not be seen anywhere,” he said.

The local government minister expressed his hopes that the two city corporations of Dhaka will be successful in removing the sacrificial waste on time in accordance with the ministry’s instruction.

He said if someone offers sacrifice after the first day of Eid-ul-Azha, that too should be removed promptly.

Stating that around 25 lakh animals will be sacrificed in Dhaka city, the local government minister said if there is a little delay in such a big event, it can be accepted, but excessive delay cannot be tolerated.

Asked whether places will be designated for animal sacrifices in Dhaka, Tazul Islam said it was done during Covid-19. This year animals will be sacrificed at places specified socially in some areas.
