Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya, a macro-economist and public policy analyst, has said that the policies and commitments outlined in the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 are inconsistent with the actual allocations.

The ruling Awami League did not uphold its election manifesto in the proposed national budget, Debopriya, a member of the United Nations Committee for Development Policy and a distinguished fellow of the CPD, said on Monday.

While talking to the newsmen at a programme held in the capital Dhaka on Monday, he said that the country's two vital sectors-- energy and banking -- need to be reformed.

With a visionary target to control inflation, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali unveiled a proposed national budget of Tk7.97 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2024-25 on 6 June.
