Unidentified criminals indiscriminately hacked a Union Parishad Chairman in Chuadanga’s Jibannagar Upazila on Friday night.
The victim was identified as Sohrab Hossain Khan, Chairman of the Manoharpur Union of the district.
Severely injured Sohrab is now undergoing treatment at Jashore Medical College Hospital.
Zahirul Islam, a member of Ward No. 2 of the same union, said that Sohrab Hossain Khan was going home on a motorcycle around 8 pm after drinking tea from Ala More. Two masked assailants on a bike coming from the opposite direction hit the chairman with a sharp knife on the back and ran away.
Sohrab was rushed to Jibonnagar Upazila Health Complex and then shifted to Kashore Medical College as his condition deteriorated.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jibannagar Police Station SM Javeed Hasan said that Sohrab Hossain was stabbed three times with a sharp weapon on his back. Police are conducting an operation to arrest the attackers.
Earlier on May 28, miscreants attacked Abdul Hannan, Chairman of Utholi Union of Jibannagar Upazila, in the same way. He is still under treatment.
