Teachers of all public universities in the country will observe work abstention from Monday for an indefinite period as the government has not met their demand to cancel the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) notification for them.
Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers’ Association Secretary General Nizamul Hoque announced the programme at a press conference on the Dhaka University campus on Sunday.
Meanwhile, terming the pension scheme “Prattay” discriminatory, teachers of Dhaka University and other public universities across the country observed a full-day work abstention today to realise their demand.
On 13 March, the Finance Division in a notification said all officers and employees joining autonomous, self-regulated, nationalised, statutory organisations and their subordinate institutions on or after 1 July will be included in the UPS.
The public university teachers registered protests against the notification and began observing work abstention in early June.
