Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said they are not making mass arrests in cases filed over the violence centring the quota reform movement.
“Arrests are being made based on intelligence information, video footage, and evidence related to the violence,” he told reporters at a press conference held at the secretariat in Dhaka.
The minister said, “Many claimed that we are making mass arrests, but we are not doing so. We are not arresting innocent people.
“If individuals are brought to police stations by mistake, our officers check the matters. If they think the individuals are innocent, they are released,” he said.
Earlier on the day, seven cabinet members, including Asaduzzaman, four secretaries, and chiefs of the law enforcement agencies held an emergency meeting at the secretariat to discuss the contemporary issues of the country.
The home minister presided over the meeting.
