The box office performance of Bollywood horror comedy “Stree 2”, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has been exceptional, with the film proving unstoppable even amid tough competition. Released on India’s Independence Day on August 15, the film faced off against Akshay Kumar's “Khel Khel Mein” and John Abraham's “Vedaa”, yet managed to dominate the box office.

“Stree 2” has earned Rs 172 crore in gross domestic box office collections, the makers said on Sunday.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, the Hindi film is a sequel to the 2018 hit “Stree”, also starring Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana.  
The film started its run with paid previews on Wednesday, which brought in Rs 9.40 crore. On Thursday, it had a smashing opening, earning Rs 55.40 crore. The film saw a slight dip on Friday as earnings fell to Rs 35.30 crore.

According to trade experts, the film will enter the Rs 200 crore club by Today, which also marks the Rakshabandhan holiday in some parts of the country. “Stree 2” will be the only Bollywood film, excluding the Hindi version of “Kalki 2898 AD”, to achieve this feat. Hrithik Roshan’s “Fighter” missed the mark by only a few lakhs, earning Rs 199.45 crore.

“Stree 2” is a part of Dinesh Vijan’s horror-comedy universe, which also includes Stree, Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Roohi, Varun Dhawan's Bhediya, and Sharwari Wagh-Mona Singh's Munjya in its franchise. Stree 2 is the fifth film in the horror universe.

As suggested by the trailer, “Stree 2” follows a new demon terrorizing the town of Chanderi, with a headless monster abducting women at night. Vicky (played by Rajkummar Rao) and his friends—portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana—are once again on a mission to save the village. They are joined by the enigmatic "Girl With No Name" (played by Shraddha Kapoor), who warns them that they have only a few days to defeat the demon before all is lost.
