The Local Government Division has removed mayors of 12 city corporations, including Dhaka north and south city corporations across the country, according to an official notification.

The government also appointed administrators for those corporations, said a gazette notification issued by the local government division on Monday.

The notification said, the mayors were removed from their offices as per the section 13 (Ka) of the Local Government (City Corporation) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

The remaining city corporations are Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh.     

Earlier, the government removed 323 municipality mayors from their offices in application of section 32(A) of the Local Government (Municipality) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

In another notification, the Local Government Division disclosed the fresh appointment of 61 officers as Deputy Commissioners (except for the 3 hill tract areas) in the application of section 82(A) of the Zila Parishad (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

The notification issued in the public interest will come into immediate effect, both the notifications said.
