Ziaul Hasan Siddiqui has resigned from his position as chairman of Sonali Bank, following intense protests by employees demanding changes to promotion policies.

Ziaul submitted his resignation to the Financial Institutions Department of the Ministry of Finance on August 19. The resignation was accepted today, as confirmed by a letter signed by Deputy Secretary Afsana Bilkis.

The resignation comes after Sonali Bank employees surrounded Ziaul Hasan on Monday, pressing for the promotion of overlooked staff and revisions to the bank's promotion policy.

Despite Ziaul Hasan's request for patience until a board meeting scheduled for Tuesday, officials remained unconvinced and demanded immediate action.

The situation escalated, leading to Ziaul Hasan being escorted out of the bank by the army later that evening.
