A Dhaka court has imposed a 60-day travel ban on Taqsem A. Khan, former managing director of the Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA).
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Joglul Hossain imposed the ban in response to the appeal of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday.
The court has also asked the authorities concerned including the immigration department and the Special Branch (SB) of Bangladesh police to take necessary steps in this regard complying with the order.
On August 19, the ACC decided in principle to investigate the wealth and properties accumulated by Taqsem during his over 12-year tenure.
Later, the anti-corruption watchdog also requested the SB to take measures to prevent Taqsem from leaving the country.
Earlier on 14 August, Taqsem submitted his resignation letter via email, citing his health-related issues.
Soon after his resignation, AF Hassan Arif, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, told journalists that legal action against Taqsem and his close aides must be taken for their all-out indulgence in corruption and misdeeds.
“Taqsem A. Khan established syndicated corruption by extending his tenure over the last 12 years. His corrupt practices, and even his appearance, have become widely known to the public,” said the adviser.
