Ex-secy Shah Kamal sent to jail in foreign currency case

A court in Dhaka on Friday sent Shah Kamal, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, to jail in a case lodged under The Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1947.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Torikul Islam passed the order as the police produced him before the court after the end of his five-day remand in the case and pleaded to keep him behind bars till the end of the probe.
On 18 August, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahammed placed Shah Kamal on a five-day remand.
The police raided Shah Kamal's residence in Mohammadpur’s Babar Road area on 16 August and seized Tk3.11 crore worth of local and foreign currencies.
The Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested him from the capital's Mohakhali area the next day and showed him arrested in the case.
